Meet the Team.
Vern Salter – MA, LPCC
Vern has spent over 25 years as a vocational christian worker, both stateside and overseas.
Having received help and care in times of crises, he values the “below the waterline” work of counseling, as well as the “at the waterline” work of adopting soul care practices, relational reconciliation, and healthy rhythms in life.
With an MA in Clinical Counseling from Colorado Christian University, Vern blends professional and soul care in his perspective on providing care.
Trained in EMDR, Gottman Marriage Therapy, and Soul Care, he brings a broad scope to member care work.
He is married to Janell, and they have 3 adult children. Living in Colorado Springs, CO, they marvel at the beauty of God’s creation around them daily.
Tim Smith – LPC
Tim is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 35 years of experience in the mental health field, including experience in Christian hospital psychology units, group homes, prison chaplaincy, missionary care, assessments, and leadership. Tim earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wheaton College, his master’s degree in counseling from Denver Seminary, and his doctorate in psychology from Grand Canyon University. He did his doctoral dissertation on resilience in cross-cultural workers. Tim takes an approach to counseling that integrates his faith with evidence-based therapies such as EMDR and EFT. He has written the book Create an Environment for Growth to help people proactively grow through the hardships of life and become more resilient.
Tim and his wife, Deanna, have been married for over 35 years. They have two adult sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. Although they have lived in Chicago and Austria, they keep coming back to Colorado because they love living there! They enjoy mountain activities such as hiking, skiing, camping, mountain biking, and reading good books in interesting coffee shops.
Dave Wilson
David Wilson has worked with kids, families, and marriages for over 17 years. He is married to Janna and is the father of eight kids.
Both Janna and David grew up overseas as Third Culture Kids (TCK’s). His passion is walking alongside people wherever they are in their story, marriage, and family and helping them take the next step.
David is a professionally trained Marriage and Family counselor.
Brandi Walters – MA LPC
Brandi is a Christian Counselor who loves helping women break strongholds such as fear, control, and people pleasing, and helping women heal the root of depression, anxiety, and trauma through a closer walk with Jesus. She also enjoys helping couples prepare for marriage, improve their communication, rebuild trust after betrayal, eliminate emotional abuse, resolve sexual concerns, and hear God’s guidance together.
Mark Looyenga – DMin, MDiv, MS
Mark brings over 25 years of ordained and certified ministry experience, serving as both a pastor and a care leader in parachurch organizations. In addition, he has five years of experience in chemistry research, analysis, and teaching. Mark’s passion for integrating biblical theology with scientific study has shaped his unique approach to ministry, grounded in a Christian worldview.
While studying at Whitworth College, Mark earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Religion and Chemistry. He continued his academic journey with a master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Nebraska, followed by a Master of Divinity from Fuller Seminary. He earned his doctorate in Leadership and Community Spiritual Formation from Denver Seminary, focusing on how families can cultivate a culture of growth and gratitude, rather than one based on performance or behavioral modification. Mark has published several articles and has taught both nationally and internationally. He is also experienced in designing and leading soul care experiences and retreats. His passion lies in guiding spiritual leaders—individuals, couples, and groups—to behold God and embrace their belovedness, so they may mature holistically in love with God and, as they journey, may bear the enduring fruit of the Spirit.
Mark is married to Leigh Ann, and they have three teenage children. They live in Colorado Springs, CO, where they enjoy hiking, exploring mountain towns, chasing after their kids, and sharing good ethnic food with loved ones.
